  • The Dallas/Fort Worth Consolidated Metropolitan Statistical Area (DFW) reported 5.2 million residents in the 2000 Census, making it the largest metropolitan area in Texas, the ninth largest metro in the country and larger than 31 U.S. states. (Census 2000)
  • DFW is comprised of two Primary Metropolitan Statistical Areas (PMSAs), Dallas on the east with 3.5 million residents and Fort Worth on the west with a population of 1.7 million. (Census 2000)
  • The median age in DFW is 32.1 compared to the U.S. average of 35.3.
  • DFW continues to add population at the same levels of the previous decade, bringing the population to nearly 6 million residents.

ACCESSIBILITY

        DFW is a major hub for air and ground transportation . . .

  • DFW's central location is equally close to North America's largest business centers: New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Mexico City and Toronto.
  • The region's Central Time Zone location, one hour behind the East Coast and two hours ahead of the West
  • Direct flight time from DFW to nearly any city in the continental U.S. takes four hours or less.
  • DFW International Airport is the world's third busiest airport handling over 55 million passengers with an estimated 2,150 daily flights to approximately 210 destinations, including 36 international destinations.
  • The Dallas region is served by DFW International based American Airlines and Dallas Love Field based Southwest Airlines. 
  • Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) provides a network covering 700-square-miles in Dallas and 13 surrounding suburban communities and serving 210,000 passengers a day. By 2015, DART plans to have 93 miles of light rail and 22 miles of commuter rail in full operation.

  • The Dallas/Fort Worth area is served by more than 100 Independent School Districts (ISD) enrolling an estimated one million students. Nearly 150 accredited private and parochial schools are in the Dallas area enroll 64,000 students.
  • Enrollment exceeds 70,000 students at the six top public universities in DFW that offer baccalaureate and graduate degrees. Another 20 colleges and universities in the DFW area enroll nearly 50,000 students plus six community college districts, several of which offer multiple campuses, enroll more than 100,000 students.
  • The six major public universities in DFW granted nearly 4,600 doctoral degrees in the last decade.
  • The metro reports more than 100 campuses of proprietary schools licensed by the Texas Workforce Commission.
  • Dallas offers the largest number of college and high school educated residents of any metro in the state of Texas and among the highest in the nation. Approximately, 2.6 million residents in DFW hold high school diplomas and more than 920,000 have completed at least four years of college.

  • Two of the nation's top rated hospitals are located in Dallas: Parkland Memorial Hospital and Baylor University Medical Center.
  • The Dallas region is an international medical center for burns and trauma care and a leading transplant center of the Southwest. QUALITY OF LIFE

        Dallas/Fort Worth has a multitude of cultural and recreational amenities . . .

  • DFW claims two major arts districts, the 60-acre Dallas Arts District, anchored by the Dallas Museum of Art and the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, is the largest urban arts district in the country. The Fort Worth Cultural District claims several top museums in the state, including the Kimball, the Amon Carter, and the newly completed Museum of Modern Art.
  • Beyond the two central cultural districts, DFW offers more than 150 museums and galleries, over 50 professional and community theaters, and dozens of local orchestras, ballet groups and opera associations.
  • Within 100 miles of DFW there are more than 400 public parks, covering nearly 23,000 acres, and more than 60 lakes and reservoirs, covering approximately 550,000 acres.
  • Dallas boasts seven major league sports teams including Cowboys football, Mavericks basketball, Rangers baseball, Stars hockey, Burn soccer, Sidekicks indoor soccer and Dragoons polo.

DIVERSITY

Dallas is a richly diverse American city - over the years it has become a melting pot of cultures, religions and lifestyles...

      The history of Texas is deeply rooted in the Hispanic culture. Originally called Tejas, the Spanish founded the state and today there are over six  million Latinos living in Texas . 

      In 1869, Chinese immigrated to Texas to work on the railroads,  bringing with them a rich heritage. Dallas now has sixteen different Asian 
      nationalities living in the area. 

      Named as one of the best places for African-Americans to do business by  Black Enterprise Magazine,  Dallas has a thriving African-American community.
